Good Citizen?

The kids and I decided to spend some time with Grandma this weekend. I mean, she only lives7 minutes away from us but the thought of them being able to spend the night at Grandma's is exciting to them. Besides, sitting around gossiping about family business and watching the boob tube is relaxing.
A midnight craving for chocolate ice cream brought us out driving in the late night. I usually don't drive around that late but the grocery store is only a few minutes away. While waiting for mother in the car I got to catch up with a little reading, something to keep my mind off the frozen Alaskan air. (I'm reading Super Mom.) It's a bit chilly outside but the car is running and the heat, well, is trying to warm up.

During my moments of concentration, I look up to find two men running past the car, in a sheer moment I realize it is a Police Officer chasing after a man. The officer was probably in his late 30's, maybe early 40's and the man being chased was probably in his mid 20's. I must say that the Police Officer was in good physical condition to be able to keep up with the young man. I don't know if it was the ice on the pavement that slowed him or what but he lost him. I don't know what the situation was but after my family had entered the vehicle minutes later we went to gas up. There was a little black car sitting at the payphone with a young lady. She sat there, with the engine off, the whole time I gassed up. She looked about the age of the man that was being chased. Could there be a correlation between the two? Hmmm...

As I was driving away from the gas station, there were 4 police cars at different ends of the grocery store. Three Police Officer's headed in another direction with a K-9. How exciting. As I drove past these three men, I decided to tell them about the young lady patiently waiting at the vacant gas station, all alone in her vehicle. To my surprise one of the officer's yells "We're busy..." another says "Call dispatch..."

They didn't allow me to continue with what I was saying so I drove off. I think this lady was waiting for this man they were chasing. Maybe not, but just in case, they could have questioned her. I was only being a good citizen, but realize that I shouldn't have bothered them.

What would you have done in this situation? I thought it a bit strange for a young lady sitting at the gas station in her vehicle at 1:00 in the morning in temperatures in the single digits. She was parked near a payphone with her engine off. As I drove past her, she did not move an inch, not even a glance in my direction.

Anyways, I hope that whatever the problems were, that everyone was safe and handled by the coppers.
